JD D110 Governor Questions

I've been called in to help my nephew with his broken D110 mower. (B&S ID data below.) I have confirmed by the pieces coming out of the oil drain hole that the engine governor is the problem. They cannot afford the $850 for a new engine I was quoted. Overall their mower is in decent shape, except for the engine issue. They have a 3 acre yard, all in grass, so they can't do without.





My questions...
• Has B&S fixed this issue ? Are the replacement parts going to create another time bomb ?
• Where is the best on-line parts source to get quality parts ? Does this come as a "kit" ?
• Are there compatible engines (even of a lower HP) of another brand we should consider ?
• I've loaned them an ancient 9HP 30" Snapper which does not have the governor. Their yard is dead-flat. What if their engine was reassembled without the governor "feature" ?

Governor failures are rare. Just the internals for damage other than the governor. You find the ACR failure on the camshaft was the root cause and that is common type of failure. Just happen to take out the governor.

"ACR" ?? Sorry, not familiar with that term.

You were 100% correct. It was the ARC portion of the camshaft.

Here are the 4 pieces that came out. The others may have escaped during the oil drain.



Now to find a replacement camshaft. Any idea what PN is needed for a 33R8 ?

Don't go for the after market ones or at least the ones I tried all fail in short order.
