I have a deck raising issue I need help with. 2013 Toro MX5060 Timecutter, 50". Last fall I noticed sometimes when I pull back on the lever to raise the deck it only goes so far, to around the 3 position -- like something is blocking it. Then later it would work normally. I forgot about it till I pulled the mower out today. I figured maybe a stick or something got underneath and was blocking the deck from raising fully. I have many sticks and trees. I examined and saw no stick. I did notice that there was a spot on one of the brass pieces that showed some rubbing. I think its called a Bracket Hanger, part # Toro 119-3494. See attached diagram. I think its part # 2. The part signs of significant rubbing against the frame of the mower. When I raise the deck sometimes the top of the bracket hits the frame and stops. Other times it raises as it should. [NOTE: At least this is the best way I can describe it. At 79 its not as easy to get down there as it use to be]. Assuming I'm correct in this why would the bracket be stopping against the frame when I'm raising the deck ?? And other times it doesn't??

Sounds like the deck has developed some play or slop over the years, common issue. Two solutions that come to mind are grinding down on the deck hanger where you see rubbing, or keep trying to adjust deck with some vigor, until you get to right height.
Tiger, I've not resorted to any grinding yet, as you suggested. I have noticed this: (1) That Bracket Hanger is on the right side (if you're sitting in the seat). (2) The rubbed area can be seen on the outside surface of the hanger if you look under there from the right side. (3) Considering what you said about the deck may have developed some slop or play I tried something. My yard is not level and has some slope in some areas. Since the rub is on the outside edge of the right Bracket Hanger I drove the mower side ways across a slope in the land with downhill being on my left. Doing that did allow me to raise the deck all the way. That didn't immediately work every single time. But it did work. (4) I'm "guessing" here, but I'm thinking maybe that allowed the deck to slide to the left (downhill) a little bit allowing me to raise the deck all the way. I'm just wondering what I can do other than grinding the Bracket Hanger with a power grinder. I do have a Ryobi hand-held grinder. I just hate to do that unless I have to. I'm just wondering if there is something else I could do.....maybe try some adjustment or something. I know its probably difficult to diagnose this without it being right there in front of you.

Make sure the deck is level. Break out the tape measure with all tires at correct air pressure, and on concrete. Often the right side of deck is fixed, and the left side of deck is adjusted to match the right side height. Then the front of deck is pitched 1/4” lower than the rear. Another thing is where deck height is set when mowing. My experience is that people often mow grass way too short. Most riding mowers are only cutting at about 3.5” with the deck all the way up.
MParr, I too had to work with it a lot to get it level side to side. The movement with that left side adjustment is so critical.
Tiger, thanks....good point. I'll be out a few days; when I return I'll pull it in the garage where I have a concrete floor. I don't think its off enough to cause this problem but I will check that. Like MParr said the deck side to side adjustment is on the left side and its quite critical and one person trying to get it level side to side is a pain. But last time I adjusted it I did get it level side to side and lower in the front between 1/8 - 1/4 inch. When I return I'll check this first before I do anything.
