I have a toro super recycler 2013 : 21" (53 cm) Personal Paceョ 3-in1 (20381)

It work really well but I used it lately to pick up dead leaf and it was really hard to start, it took like 10-15 pull to start. The temperature was 21 and the oil was very cold so it was not easy to do a good pull.

Do you think it's normal?

Can I put synthetic oil in these engine so that it has a broader range of operating temperature? (15F-105F)

So should I bring it back to the dealer or it's just normal?

Forgot to mention that once the oil as heated for a few seconds, it will be very very easy to start.

The oil to use for lower temps should be in the book that comes with the mower. Most of those Chinese engines call for 10w30 but Toro might want something else. Check with the dealer or read the book.

New easy start Toro mowers use 30W oil and yes they will be harder to start in cold weather. Most people are not cutting there lawns at 21 degrees. Nothing to do with the choke.

Rivets...have you forgotten about our Northern tier brethren to whom 21 degrees is short-sleeve weather? Of course they mow in that blizzard condition. How would you like to be shade-tree mechanic on a driveway job?

Dave...if you look on a map Wisconsin is part of the northern tier, where we got 2" of snow on Tuesday. Have done many driveway repairs colder than that, but refuse to work on mowers in that temp.

Mowers will be harder to start if not close to impossibly to start at colder temps. The wrong weight of oil will make it even harder. I remember hearing something a few years back when they started coming out with the non adjustable carb engines, that the carbs are jetted for operating temps above 70 degrees.
