Hi
Man I have a lot to catch up on...
Has anyone ever mentioned you need to back up everything...?
INCLUDING your many passwords!

This is going to take a while just to find where things have gone, It seems like forever since I have been here,
I may end up up all night just reading:smile::smile:.
I had extreme computer failure... had to get a new one AND then had to rebuild my old one just to get my passwords back... Hello to all, I'm sure I am going to have quite a time catching up... :smile:KennyV

Welcome Back ! You were missed !

Hope the computer wasn't too much of a pain (I know it was) !

Check out a program called Registry Mechanic -- it keeps things running better.

I am familiar with all the things that you should do as to computer file back ups and security... all my business computers have all kinds of off site back ups...
BUT you know ... home computers, what is important there ... A LOT!!
Just another miserable reminder of the 'right way' to do things...

Setting up my new lap top, has been less than a snap also...
I have been busy doing other things and poking at getting things up and running in between... so it all has drug out for some time...

As to catching up I am trying to read everything from my last visit... WOW there has been a lot... I will comment where it seems appropriate or where I might have a 'little' to add, but I do hope that I do not offend anyone by not commenting or some how overlook their post... It's good to be back and rolling again.. THANK YOU everyone... :smile:KennyV:smile::smile:

Kenny, don't take this as an affront, but every password I have for everything including my ATM's, etc. is stored in the "Password Keeper" on my Blackberry...both old and newer models. And they are also written down and stored in our home safe...however, you are probably like many people..."nothing will happen to my home computer, and I will always remember my passwords.

Thanks for sharing your experience....the data someone else may save by reading about your experience may be invaluable.

Just curious, what did you buy as a laptop...my main one is a 17 inch Toshiba, L-355, AMD Turion X2.
Have had it two years now, gets used so much some of the letter keys are getting the markings rubbed off but it has performed flawlessly. I have a 6 year old 15.4 inch screen Toshiba that has performed just as well and still has the OEM battery.

Glad to see you back... We were all wondering where you were.

I had one toshiba laptop that worked great, though ran really hot... That is, until I put it in my checked baggage on a flight and it decided to never turn on again. By then it was too old to be worth fixing. Now I've had a Dell for a couple of years without any major major problems... But I'm not about to put it in checked baggage!

It's great being able to be back..
I got the HP G72 17.3" ... seems okay, but still not as solid as my desk top ... NOW!

I am not sure why I actually got a laptop, everyone was telling me that I should... well I guess I will give it time. :smile:KennyV
PS ....checked luggage has a tendency to have lots of things mysteriously vanishing... Air travel is not like it use to be...

I am VERY well informed about computer hardware....and know what model you purchased. Those are an EXCELLENT mid range laptop...let me guess, did you get yours from Best Buy for about $500, they sell one at that price with 4 GB of memory and a 500 GB hard drive. May I give you some advice...at least once a month, unplug the power cord and run it on battery power until it has only about 8-10% power left, then plug it back in. The battery will last much longer that way than if you leave it plugged in all the time.

I first saw this at BB and it seemed OK... then it came up on Woot for less than $400, so I figures I has to get it...
I have never has much laptop use time, I will keep that battery drain time in mind...

It has a 6 cell batt, just a tad end heavy, but run time looks very good, A friend was using it the other day and got just a little over 5 hours on it, took it down to 8%, she got a little worried and shut it down because it recommended a plug into power... Didn't have an AC power source at the time... :smile:KennyV
