hustler starter

I have a hustler with a honda engine. I have starting issues. I turn the key to start and it clicks but wont start unless I peck on the starter. It did this once before and I put a starter on it. I just put a new battery on it also. Is it the solenoid, if so how do I test it.

Sounds like classic failed solenoid. Jump the poles with a screw driver, if it cranks you have a bad one. New solenoid is about $10.
