Try unscrewing the gas cap a bit and see what it does. Could be that the vent in the cap is plugged, which would cause flow of gas to stop.
Did you install new fuel line and clean out the gas tank when you replaced the carb? It may also be possible that there iingis an obstruction that sort of floats around until it plugs up the line either in the tank or in the line to the carb.

I will try that, though the float bowl is full when I check it and I see fuel coming in, small stream, when I let the float drop
