how many of you repair small engines as a hobby? $$

Started teaching small engine repair in 1974. Worked in small engine shop each summer to keep up to date. (fat chance) retired in 07 and 40units came in the last three days. Getting to old for this, maybe I should retire again.

Because your plug wasn't under compression. It takes more to operate a spark plug under compression. This is the reason you should always test for spark with the plug in the engine. I guess my question would be how would a engine run without the spark plug in the engine because you would have 0 compression?

Plug is briged by carbon inside. Needs god clean with wire brush or replacment

You have to learn to work differant after retirement. One of the words you have to learn to say is NO. The way I do it anymore in my retirement years is just one job at a time and just the type of work I want to do. Also if you want me to fix it it will be done my way or take it else where. Make it more into a hobby then a job.

Was able to say no until our govoner screwed the unions and lost health insurance. Now must work more to pay for it. $1000/month. Lucky I can still work.

They call them the golden ages. I am going to lose my health insurance this month and going to have to find a new health insurance company. I have medicare so I do have some help. If I have to come up with 1000/month I don't know what I would do? Who is going to hire a man in his 70's if I have to get a job?

crazy week so far, sold 4 mowers yesterday but got two more mowers as trade-ins and fixed one of them already and the other does run but the trans is gone (they took it out and threw it away), haha, 6.0 HPO briggs Gold series engine though. i really enjoy this stuff. is the one i am trying to sell as well.

Sound more like a full time job to me not much of a hobby. Sure glad it's you and not me.

That would be the difference between you and me. I am almost to the age that my children are starting to take care of me any more and they sure make a lot more money then me. I always loved nature/gardening/firewood also but my body just tells me NO any more. I have been told they are called the golden ages but I would sure love to trade with you for the children/nature/firewood and the list goes on:smile:
