How good are Scag mowers?

I've always assumed Scag mowers were top of the line - one of the best that you could buy. While chewing the fat with a friend, I realized I have nothing more than my opinion to back up that assertion. So....am I correct? Do Scags have issues? I am not currently looking for a ZT mower, this is just for my own information.

All commercial grade mowers are good mowers unless they have been abused and servicing has been neglected.

These mowers are made by SCAG power equipment in Austin TX and not some other 3rd party private label company like many other units are made.

I tend to favor Bad Boy mowers as a comparison for a similar quality-built unit.

Have worked on mostly Scag's (Kohler & Kawa) and mainly maintenance items such pulley's, bearings, belts, head gaskets after many hours. I find parts readily available and 8Ten has some decent aftermarket parts (I use their pulleys). IMHO, they are easy to work on, have great documentation and they just run if you treat them right. When buying anything used with Pump/Motor setup, look for seal leaks on the Hydro-Gear pumps (used on other brand ZTR's as well).

My daughter was given a 52" zero-turn that needed an engine, we installed a used B and S on it.
Runs great, a work horse . . .
