About 12 years ago the Kawasaki motor in my John Deere died. The exhaust valve loosened and after a couple of tries to fix it I went to the dealer and they gave me a quote of $1,300 for a 12 hp short block.
I ended up getting a Honda GCV 530 16 hp motor to put in it.
With the relatively small 38" deck I can cut almost anything.
