Honda GCV 160 Smart Drive Control Lever Stuck

Just recently the smart drive control lever on my Honda GCV 160 keeps getting stuck in the self propelled position after pushing the lever down. After releasing the lever, it does not go back up to the starting position which turns the self propelled off. I have to manually push the lever back up. Any recommendations? Thank you in advance.

Typically it attaches to a cable which tilts the transmission and engages the belt. The transmission has a spring which pulls the cable back. Also your cable maybe rusted internally and not moving freely. You may need to Lube or replace it.
