well woodworking and cabinetmaking is what i hope to do as a career someday. i have an internship that i do cabinetmaking in. and at school i'm learning more of the framing and house building side. one day i hope to have a home cabinetmaking shop.

In regard to Hitachi, I've always been leary of companies with multiple lines of products(like Mitsubishi electronics, TV's & cars)...LG......etc. If Nissan started making dishwashers I doubt I'd buy one just because they make good automobiles:0)

This is a good point I also an leary of it to. I like dedicated company's that only make and specialize in one thing.

Problem is you get a dedicated company and you get a corporation who buys out our dedicated company and stick their badge on it

Yeah, it seems that the big fish are always on the prowl for a vulnerable small fish:0)
The worst case of mixed product marketing I ever experienced was when I bought my kids a Coleco "Adam Computer", that had a built-in ability to play the Colecovision games(the major competitor of the infamous Atari game console) and also had a tape drive, software titles and a matrix printer. Unfortunately, during the same period they began marketing the Adam Computer(to compete with the Commodore Computer) they also were selling the exteremely popular "Cabbage Patch Dolls"(adoptable, life-like looking dolls)...I think you can actually still buy them.

Now I ask you.....would you REALLY want to buy a computer made by the same company that made Cabbage Patch Dolls????? Go figure, the Adam Computer failed miserably after less than two years on the market. BTW, I still have that Adam Computer stored in a closet just in case some nut on eBay or Craig's List is a collector of vintage computers and wants to offer me $10,000 for it. Now THAT would make buying the Adam Computer a wise long-term investment wouldn't it:0)
