Hi All,
I bought a Murray M22450 22in mower from Walmart last spring, and it worked fine for us all summer. We went to crank it up last week after being stored for winter (didn't leave gas in it), and it won't run. After pumping the bulb several times AND opening the top to where the oil goes, it will crank up for a few seconds and then dies. I decided to try and fix it myself, and from reading and watching youtube videos, I thought maybe it was a carburetor problem. So after taking the mower apart (yikes) and removing and opening the carburetor, I am kind of confused. Everything that I have read and watched shows a pin and seat coming off of the float- mine doesn't have that. There is a float, but no sort of pin or anything, and the hole is more of an oval with a metal thing going into it that is not removable (see photos). The carburetor was also full of gas if that says anything (I don't know anything about engines at all). I believe that the carburetor is a Briggs & Stratton 590556 Carburetor from the looks of it, but I can't find any photos of what the inside is supposed to look like. I've never opened the carburetor and bought it new, so should there be a pin, and if so, how did it work before without one? Is it worth just buying a new carburetor for $40, or does it not seem like this would be the problem? I also changed the filter, and we didn't think it was the spark plug because the engine did fire up a couple of times for a few seconds. Anything else to try, like draining the oil and replacing or something? It was a cheapie mower, but I would rather not spend another $200 and create more garbage if I can help it...Thanks in advance.IMG_0684resuze.jpgIMG_0683reziese.jpg

Buy the $40 carb it will be easier than trying to find the part that fell out when you opened the carb. And if it does not start and run try what I posted below.

Is the fuel valve on?
Be sure to turn it all the way on.
Is the ignition switch in the "on" position?
Is there enough oil in the engine?
Is it filled to the "FULL" mark on the dipstick?
Is the low oil shutdown switch activated?
Air can get trapped in the switch during oil filling, rocking the equipment from side to side corrects this situation.

From the second photo it looks like the float needle valve is missing, Should hook onto those slots on the float back by the pivot pin.

Also check the jet sticking out of the side of the wide emulsion tube assembly in the center of the second photo also. It tends to clog.

Yes .
The big white thing is the float and in the slot that is facing up should be the float needle.
It was in there before you pulled the carb apart or the mower would not have been able to work, it would have flooded.
The float needle is about 7/16" long and about 1/8" diameter.
And yes they do tend to vanish when you pull carbs apart.
It will be there some where but unless you pulled the carb apart in a box it will be hard to find.
I have an old red towel thet I try to keep for pulling carbs down on as the bits fall off and get stuck in the pile.
