STX38 with black deck. Blades won't engage, been having trouble not engaging sporadically for a while. Took the ground loose and cleaned the contact area, no change. Engaged once after I yanked the blade back and forth shaking up the clutch housing.

How do I test to see if the switch is sending the signal? The plug in on the clutch has 3 contacts. I've got a volt meter, but not sure how to use it on this type of switch.

Thanks,

Richard

Check and see if you are getting 12v at the two wire plug down by the clutch. If this is the adjustable clutch, one with three bolts with springs above the nuts, adjust the clearance with a .012 feeling gauge, by inserting in the slot next to the bolt, may take a little effort to find the gap between the steel plate of the clutch, and the engagement disc.
