It helps us to help you if you provide the engine label information. When it concerns the rider itself, we need the product label information which is usually under the seat area or on the seat mount frame.
As for you starting concern, the carburetor likely needs internal cleaning, but some engines as they age will require the choke be used every time regardless of being hot or cold. This is considered normal wear and tear with age.
It is important to change your oil and oil filter at least once every season.
I would not be too concerned about the issue unless it gets worse, or you are losing power under load.
From my experience: If it's not broken, don't try to break it while trying to fix it.
