I have a 31 yr. old Statesman ( AYP ) 20hp tractor with a 50" deck. I have rebuilt the deck 3 times but it is at this juncture falling apart. It is rusting out around the spindel mounting area. I can't seem to find a replacement deck housing anywhere. Any suggestions are welcome. I really can't afford a new mower.

Regards,

Someone with a good MIG welder, a grinder and a little fabricating knowledge could rebuild the spindle mounting areas with replacement metal and then treat with OSFO and some spot painting.

Another junk spare deck usually makes a perfect donor for the needed metal segments.

Well said but... I don't have the resources to do any of that and I need to get this mower up and running. I figure if I can find a reasonable deck I can build one from 2 and get on with mowing. AS long as the deck housing is in decent cond. I can use parts from my old deck to do a quick build without all the fabrication work.

I'm not certain what other brands were manufactured by AYP back then, possibly Huskee, Montgomery Ward or Poulan.

Not all 50" deck were the same. Some were stamped while others were fabricated

The deck is simply no longer available since at least June 2024 or at least when my price file flagged as NOS (new old stock) meaning it only was available if someone had old stock in inventory.

So depending how the spindle mounts are rusted out they can be repaired to a point. Just note removing the spindles usually means new spindles as the screws tend to break off. This is why I rebuild spindles while they are still attached to the deck.
