Greasing spindles on a d140

Is there a trick to getting a grease gun onto the spindle zerks on a D140? Ive tried different heads but cant seem to get the bitch onto the zerks. It kinda sunken into the deck an difficult to put much pressure on it

Unless something recently changed, the bearings in the spindles are sealed. The grease zerk is there so the factory could pump some grease into the void between them in order to eliminate condensation. That being said, you should be able to get a grease gun onto them unless your grease gun doesnt have a flex hose or your deck shell is bent, which could pull the zerk low enough that a grease gun can't reach it. If your spindles are making a rough or dry bearing noise, just bolt new spindles on the deck. The only parts of this tractor that are truly greaseable are the front wheel bushings and front axle spindles.

Or you have the energy disassembly the spindles and replace the bearings. Of course the spindles should disassemble while attached to the deck as the mounting screws (bolts) tends to break off.

When I replace the spindle housings I change the orientation of the grease nipples so my grease gun can get on it easily
I also remove the inner dust seals so the bearings can get the grease I pump in.
However if you do this you put the bottom bearing & spindle in then fill the void with grease ( takes 2/3 of a std grease cartridge ) then rmove both dust seals on the top bearing and tap it in place so the grease oozes out through the balls .
The refit the top dust seal , spacer & pulley .
From now on in the spindle will require 1 and only 1 stroke from a grease gun per season
