Governor?

I see we don't have a Case forum, so this is why this question is here.
I have a 1983 Case 222 that will not go into lowest idle without stalling. The governor arm moves to try to keep it going but with no success. It will idle no lower than approximately 3000 RPM. Do you think this is a governor issue or what?

I'll guess that it's a governor linkage issue. Look closely and see if you can see any loose or missing fasteners, springs, etc. Sorry I cant be of more help, I'm not too familiar with your machine. Another very simple check is for a rodent nest or grass clippings jammed up in the area of your governor.:wink::smile:

The governor only positions the throttle plate... if the engine is stalling when you manually close the throttle plate ... the problem is in the carburetor... and most likely will need a cleaning and adjusting...

Ah! I reread the OP.:ashamed: If it won't idle below 3000 rpm, that carb, as KennyV says, is probably the culprit.:wink:

I just did a carb rebuild and everything looks good. However, I've just noticed the spindle, from the linkage to the butterfly has some play. This could be wear from vibration. Is there a bushing or metal o-ring that is part of the spindle that could be worn?

The engine is a 12HP K301AS, and the carb is model 26 Kohler.

Scroll down to the Kohler carb s select the one that looks like yours... there will be a lot of pictures & information on that carb...
The bushing that you are referring to is likely very worn.... I have a 14 Hp Kohler on my early 70's Cub Cadet that has a LOT of hours and it is Very worn... but causes No problems. :smile:KennyV
