Govenor not working

Revs hard. Used to have a cut out position on the throttle and a run/ full position. Relied on govenor ( which IMPO, wasnt great. Surged a lot). Now I crack the throttle and it revs very high. Wondering if this is a fix a home mechanic can do with out an engine rebuild?

And which of the over 5000 Briggs engines do you own. We need the actual model type and code from the engine so we can determine which of the several different governor and carb systems your engine has.

Now come IL isn't that super crystal ball working yet? Mine is out for repairs and just found out all the parts are on long term back order.

See if the governor springs are broke, rusty, or disconnected, and loose governor arm.
