As in someone cutting the key off?Starts and runs great, then shuts down immediately
Tried that, no luck. thanks though.Slightly loosen the fuel cap and see if that helps. It may be pulling a vacuum. Also tight valves can do that. a bad plug can too, and with all the counterfeits coming from online retailers, and off brands, that is a possiblity too.
8 years old, probably needs valves ran and cylinder's de-carboned per his engine manual.

Sounds like trash in the tank.
Could be a sticking closed needle??
Tank vent?
Failed/failing internally fuel line??

Doesn't stumble or cough, stops instantly. That's why I thought electrical and replaced the coil. Engine cover and fan are plastic. Clean underneath and the fan is new. I thought there might be a short or ground in the seat kill switch so I bypassed it. Once it's cooled down maybe 10 to 15 minutes it starts right up again. As in someone cutting the key off?
Or does it stumble down in revs slowly until she dies?
Hmm, not familiar with that. I'll look into it. Thanks.Don't overlook the possibility of the afterfire solenoid on the carb failing.
Does it have spark, or not? Did it have spark with original ignition coil or not? Are you removing the kill wire on ignition coil to test to be sure the coil is good?Hello L.,
We need all of the rider product label information and all of the engine ID numbers. Otherwise, it makes it difficult to assist you.
Commonly the fuel bowl solenoid does not fail, it is the harness connector pin fit that spreads with time and use.
When the mower acts up and wants to cut off, try moving the connector slightly to get the solenoid to operate. If it starts running correctly, the connector pins need to be tightened slightly, then the harness secured with an electrical cable tie wrapped around the solenoid.
The next possibility is the start switch. These are mass produced cheaply made plastic switches that commonly fail.
