Gearcase hit object, cracked attachment point. 917.374352

Craftsman rear wheel drive walk behind mower 22 inch. I hit something while mowing and broke off the < shaped plastic attachment point for the drive cable. Also lost the spring that goes from the gear case to the rear baffle. What is that spring for ?
