Gday from down under

Hey I'm Pete alias chainsaw nut I collect chainsaws brushcutters and fiddle with lawnmowers at times.
I have a self propelled masport slasher powered by 8 hp briggs,a victa 160 more known in australia than elsewhereand a couple of briggs powered rotary mowers.I received an invite to this site via tractorbynet which is a gereat place to visit.I am self taught when it comes to small engines and have a lot to learn,I often don't understand what I have done to make something go elimination or fluke I'm not sure which.anyway I am looking forward to enjoying the site cheers

Hey Pete -- I can't understand the above comment but welcome you to this forum.

I'm into chainsaws much more than mowers myself so we've got that in common.

There's another Australian member -- "lizard" from Perth -- that I haven't heard from in a while. I hope he gets back on here soon.

You are right about lizard .... have missed his fast mowing posts... He was generally here around this time of day...

What I meant by elimination was I keep trying different parts until something makes it go BRmmmmmmm and down here fluke is a slang term meaning lucky

Thanks, Pete -- we use the term "fluke" the same way also and I now understand what you are saying.

One interesting bit of knowledge I picked up from lizard is that, in West Australia, they use expensive reel mowers on finely groomed grass and achieve a very close cut: less than 1/2 inch. They groom whole lawns more carefully than people here (Southeast USA) groom putting greens on golf courses. Is it like that in South Australia?
 
Ok that one worked ,the reel mower you mention would have been a Scott Bonnor bit of an Icon out here in earlier years,not so common now ,Mr bonner of scott bonner fame lived out his last years here in Victor harbor.A friend of mine used to cut his widows lawn with one of his old mowers.Mostly I see rotary mowers in use usually with briggs a stratton powerplants.The other mower Icon and it is a bit of a legend is the victa Mostly 2 strokes even had a horizontally opposed twin cylender version.They made a great high rear arch model that was great with wet grass,I used them when I had a lawn mowing round ,The good thing about two strokes was you could maintain and fix them at home.If they had spark,fuel and compression they would go eventually cheers
 
The mower lizard uses is a Dwyer Felton -- made in Australia.:thumbsup:
