Gasoline shut off valve?

Good morning all. At 70 years old, I am the very proud owner of a Husqvarna TS154 X. Not only is the nicest riding mower I've ever had, it's the first one I've bought brand new.
Mine has a 27hp Kawasaki engine.
I'm thinking about installing an inline shut off valve for the gasoline for winter storage purposes. I just wonder if anybody has done this?
More background...I only use ethyl free gasoline and put a shot of stability into each 5 gallon jug I use.
Thoughts?
 
Even with a fuel shutoff I would still recommend starting the engine and let run at least 5 minutes monthly. This is because carburetor are vent to the atmosphere and as the fuel vaporizes it leaves behind all the additive which can clog up a carburetor. By Cycling the engine monthly you are refreshing the carburetor fuel in its fuel bowl.

Thank you. If I start it monthly, using eth free gas along with Stabil, would I still need a shut off valve?
This mower is stored over the hill in WV without the battery. It won't be an easy task to lug it over the hill and then to lug it back.
 
I use Stabil stabilizer year round. Never have fuel related issues since doing this. Never have to remember, this is the hard part, how old the fuel is. All my machines start in 1-3 pulls anytime of the year. I don't touch them in the winter at all. They all are in the garage which helps.

Every machine gets an inline shutoff valve. Fuel line must be long enough to fit one. Yes install one and use it prior to killing the engine.

Sounds good but would start it once a month and run it for about 15 minutes

You don’t know ethyl and ethanol are different things?

Ethyl gasoline refers to tetraethyl lead, an octane improver. Also known as leaded gasoline. I doubt you can buy this stuff from anyplace other than an airport or VP Racing Fuels.

I do. I just had a senior moment. I get alot of those after having 35 treatments of radiation on my head and 7 of chemo.

I agree with both using a good stabilizer and installing a manual fuel shutoff valve inline.

The anti-backfire valve is not a "shutoff" valve as some people believe. It is only there to assist for quicker shutdown and prevent fuel from being sucked into the engine after the ignition is turned off.

From the sound of your situation, starting it on a regular basis while stored may not be a good option, due to having to tote a battery for some distance and then fumbling with connections in the cold.

If you have electrical power where you are storing it, a battery maintainer might be a good option.
