I'd start by cleaning the carb first then move on to the valves. Sounds like the carb has issues.

These Kolher engines are much more supseptible to valves out of adjustment than carb problems. Plus checking the valves first is much easier and cheaper that pulling the carb and cleaning/rebuilding.

Yep it sounds like they are stuck, or not opening properly.

Sounds like a valve problem....not uncommon with Kohler. Time to tear her down!

When I seen adjust valves on the Kohler cv engine I though they were non-adjustable. So I went to the service manual and seen I was right and wrong. It looks like that engine came both ways non-adjustable and adjustable.
