These are what I like to call a "gotcha filter". Some repair shop techs do not even know they are in there. Most of the time they can be easily cleaned by blowing carb spray back into them and into the tank.
They are a simple tube type screen filter that is inserted into the fuel line end portion. Then the long screen tip slides into the tank and then the line slides up onto the outlet nipple of the tank, and then the line spring clamp is installed. You do not use a worm type fuel clamp because the filter can be crushed easily.
These are often used small push mower type engines where other "pancake" style filters would not have room to fit in the short fuel line.
Later models actually have a "bubble" type fuel screen actually molded into the bottom of the fuel tank.
