I am working on a Snapper snowblower with a Tecumseh HSK600-1683(T). I have spark and 60 psi of compression. From what I have researched it should be able to start and run with 60 psi. Seems low to me when chainsaws and trimmers seem to need 100ish. I have spark and I have installed a new spark plug but even when I spray starting fluid directly into the cylinder via the spark plug hole or the carburetor air inlet. I do not get even a pop. So… it made we minder if the flywheel key might be sheared. Pulled the engine and removed the shroud and got the flywheel off and lo and behold it has the steel flywheel adapter part number 611032.
I have not worked with one of these before and I guess I am confused by the fact that the keyway cut in the crankshaft and the keyway cut in the flywheel do not seem to line up on top of one another. The keyway in the engine crankshaft seem to be 90 or more degrees off of the keyway in flywheel. On the inside of the adapter there are a couple of bumps and that fit the crankshaft keyway and it seems like that is the only way to get it to fit onto the crankshaft i.e. it controls the timing/ alignment
Anybody have any insight on this? I was expecting the the two keyways would be aligned not offset. What am I missing?
