I need help figuring this one out. Have B&S model 356777-0113-E1. Problem is that the engine runs very rich at full throttle only, spit, sputter, no power, idle smooth as silk. Replaced the carb, no change. If I replace the fuel solenoid with the float bowl bolt, problem goes away. Anyone have an idea of what I am overlooking?

Is the earth and power supply always there for the solenoid?
Make up a new loom to the battery.

Have tested the solenoid at both idle and full throttle and it will close and open properly. Made a coupler/tester a couple of years ago with a light in to check for current flow which I can insert in to the line.

Not sure why when you replaced with another carb that you had the same problem..! unless that carb was no good also, seems to be that the fuel solenoid is letting too much fuel up on full throttle, has you know by replacing with float bowl bolt that it worked O.k, so I would look again at the fuel solenoid may not be sealing right in the main jet (nozzle) because you say that you have replaced solenoid with a new one.

Have you tried it with the air filter off? It sounds like a plugged air filter.Ive had filters that looked clean, but were literally plugged, esp if you get some oil in there from overfilling or turning on its side...

Fuel solenoid only shuts off nozzle at stopping, does not control fuel. Have run the engine with and without filter, no difference. I know it does not make sense, I have to be missing something obvious. If it was rich idle, good full throttle, I would know what to do. Rich mixture is caused by; bad float, bad needle and seat, bad bowl gasket, bad carb, what else?

I know, like you, that the fuel solenoid is there to stop fuel, but why (this is the bit that's odd..!) when you used the float bowl bolt you said it work fine. it will be something simple, its just finding it.
