engine smoke

Hello All,

I have a 2012 mtd yard machine 500cc brigs engine. I am having an issue when I start using it. The engine will bog down and a bunch of white smoke comes out, then the engine goes up to normal speed and then does it again. It will do this several times and then the engine runs like normal and doesnt smoke the rest of the time its running. I have also noticed black oil comes out a little bit when the smoke comes out. I also noticed gas dripping out of the muffler, although I have an issue with the carb dripping from the over flow tube. I plan on rebuilding the carb.

I would pull the dipstick, and see if it is overfilled, and smells like gas, before running the mower any more.

Rebuild the carb and renew the oil, like the above post, it seems to be having fuel into the engine (oil).

Looks like you already know what is wrong. Might just need a new nettle valve is all. Very easy job.
