Hey Guys,

New here, but been looking on this forum a lot the lat few days, since i've got a problem with my Stiga Villa riding mower.
It's got a 12 hp Briggs and stratton engine, model: 285707 type: 0143-01

i've recently ot it from a guy who said it didn't run well since he drove it untill the fueltank was empty.
So first thing i did when i got it home was cleaing the carb.
After this i put some new fuel, spark plug and a new air filter in and got it started.
But it only runs at a low rpm, even with the throttle fully open.
and the exhaust got hot, smoke coming off of it hot.

So than i went a bit further, cleaned the carb again, no difference.
Took the head off, to adjust the valves, they were both too tight so i had filed some off until the gap was right.
Put it all back together, new gaskets, new fuel lines, tried it again, still runs at too low rpm.
i don't get it, the throttle cable works, it opens the carburetor fully, the choke works (although it won't start with the choke on)

Anyone got a clue where else i have to look for a problem?

Sounds like it might be too rich. Is the throttle wide open when it tries to rev up? The air bleed holes in the brass emulsion tube may be plugged.

I've put a video on YouTube, where you can see and hear it run.
This is with the throttle fully open, no choke.

Weird part is that it is not trying tot rev up, this is all it is giving.
But when i try to engage the mower blades it Just can't get them to turn.
Rpm goes down and it shuts off, with some loud bangs from the exhaust.

Pull the flywheel and check the timing key
Sounds like it is out of time.

Thanks, i'm gonna have a look at that.
Btw, the camshaft is good.
I Read in another topic about a bad camshaft so today i had a look at it, nothing wrong there.

You were right, the flywheel key was broken, and the flywheel was way off.
Fixed it, put back together and she runs like a dream!
Thanks for the help!
