engine missing and sputtering

I have a 14HP KOHLER ENGINE on wheelhorse tractor which has been running fine till today, while mowing it starts to miss and sputter, Did not do all of time, some of the time it ran fine, After done mowing checked points-ok, also pulled spark plug and found it had carbon build up, could this be why missing and sputter if so why carbon build up on plug.THAN KS:frown:

Hello , First thing i would check is if your air filter is blocked , if you cant be sure change it any way .At the same time change your spark plug to eliminate another possible problem .Just another thought ,make sure your choke is opening . Gary:smile:
