I found this while surfing online, it says you should have enough stuff for 72 hrs in any emergency or storm like situation. I hope this helps anyone who may need it.

Basic 72 hours Emergency Preparedness Kit:
Water (at least 2 litres per day per person and small bottles that can be easily carried);
Food that won't spoil (canned food, energy bars & dried food);
Manual can opener;
Flashlight(s) and batteries;
Battery powered or wind-up radio (and extra batteries);
First Aid Kit;
Special Needs Items (prescription medication, instant formula or equipment for people with disabilities);
Extra keys for house and car;
Cash (small bills & change for payphones); and
Emergency Plan (include a copy of it & ensure it contains in-town and out-of-town contact information.

That's pretty much the standard. It's funny, though -- the part about pay phones. I saw some little one liner on TV just yesterday wondering if people still use them.

I read that, very good points. We are new here this winter and we do not know what to expect but from talking to our neighbors, it can be good or bad so I think it is best to be prepared.

There must be some, after all they are needed for the bad guys in movies to make phone calls from, right?:biggrin:

I like the list here, but don't forget to make and practice a plan of action should you need to get the family moving in an emergency.

In the age of cell phones there are fewer pay phones out there. They tend to get vandalized so much here that once they get broken, they do not get replaced.
