Drive belt

If you mean a brake for the tractor, the brake is internal in the transmission. It does, however, have brakes that rest against the pulleys on the mowing deck. But that doesn't effect the drive belt, does it?

yes it does. It significantly changes pulley spacing, and tension on the belt as it wears.

Sir, I really appreciate your help. But I believe I may have given you the wrong impression. I watched the video you included, but it only speaks to the deck belt. My issue is with the transmission drive belt. Earlier this year I did have a problem with the deck, which I figured out and repaired. This is the transmission drive belt that keeps slipping of of the pulley that's attached to the brake pedal. For whatever reason that belt randomly comes off of that pulley, even though it has a guard. I checked the belt and it looks good. No apparent damage. What would make it come off that pulley?
 
Not enough tension in the belt can do that, as well as alignment. First make sure the belt is routed correctly. Then I would look closely at the installation and alignment of the pulleys. Have you replaced the drive belt? It's easy enough to get the wrong belt. Check the pulleys to make sure the bearings aren't shot, which can also cause trouble.

The belt and pulleys were replaced 2 years ago. I'm sure the belt is routed correctly. I imagine it's possible that the pulleys that I purchased were not the best quality. I will have to remove the deck and crawl under and check it all.
Any ideas for a reliable source for the belt and pulleys, if needed? The current ones were purchased from eBay.

check pulleys for play, check trans and engine mounts, check the tension spring, and frame for cracks that allow it to overly flex. Since it seems to be happening when you stop etc., that would be the moment the engine, transmission and frame flex the most.

I will do that, thanks. I've had this tractor since 2008. The only issue I had was the mounts for the transmission. They cracked and the transmission wouldn't engage. I'm assuming that the "ears" on the frame were flexing too much. The last time I was under the tractor was when I removed the deck to install the blade brakes and paint the deck. There weren't any cracks or anything like that with the frame. Hopefully it's still intact. I'm retired and can't afford a new mower. The engine (Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin 20hp) has been very reliable. I keep it serviced regularly.
