drive belt for murray

looking for the belt size and routing pattern for my murray 12.5 bs 38" cut tractor
any help would be appreciated.

Would you please double check the model numbers you posted. You said you have a 38" deck, but a model number beginning 40 means a 40" deck.

I apologize. It a 40" cut deck. the old belt measures 93.5" and bought a gains 93" but does not appear to be long enough or am missing how to route it

Go to the web site Jacks Small Engine with your model number and the year the unit was built. If you cannot find your exact model use one that is the closest to your model number. When you find one select mower housing and it will give you an idea on how to route your belt. If you find an exact match to your model number you can order the proper belt.

how can I tell what year the mower is? it was a freebee

If it is newer it will have a DOM number. (date of manufacture). If it has a Briggs engine the first two numbers of the code will be the year the engine was manufactured.
