A few days ago I was happily mowing and all of a suddon I heard a klunk klunk and the engine stopped and now it won't start. It turns out that I hit a small stump, no bigger than a 1" diameter.

Seems to me I have heard that some engines have a shear pin to prevent major damage.

My engine is a B&S 128M05-0026-F1 Can someone tell me what to do next. I think I have the skills and tools to play DIY.

Thanks, Jim

Thanks, I got one yesterday at the local lawn equipment store. They didn’t stock the flywheel puller so I’m fabricating one. I tried all the screws in my junk fastener bucket but no luck. Do you happen to know the thread size of the flywheel puller holes? I can just go to the hardware store and buy two of each likely size.

Most likely if the the flywheel never been off then you need self tapping 1/4" screws. If tapped already it can either 1/4" or 6 mm.

I had a few M6's and an M6 bottoming tap so I went that way. It worked out great and I was mowing again yesterday. As soon as the mower was running, I got out my reciprocating saw and chopped down that stump.

Thanks for the help. Regards, Jim

Glad to hear she is running.

Old timers used to walk the yard prior to mowing. You can ask yourself why if you like.
