Engine Dixie chopper repair

My 60 in. dixie keeps back-firing/popping.Does anyone know what may be the problem?I'm thinking
the points?

that motor would have 2b quite old to have points. Prob coil prob/ SAM (if equipped), timing, or even frozen hydraulic lifters
