Cultivating the Lawn

Do you cultivate the lawn once in a while? I'm wondering if lawns need cultivating like farms. I've never seen or heard someone cultivating the lawn when it is already set but I wonder if we can cultivate the lawn if the grasses or plants don't grow anymore.
 
You can periodically test your soil, aerate and apply a fertilizer that is needed.

It all depends what you want for a lawn... Myself, if it's green and I can mow it... that is going to work for me. KennyV
