Craftsman walk-behind mower tough to re-start.

About 3 years ago my neighbor gave me this mower. 6.75hp 190cc Gold series. B&S engine.

Mower model 917.370431. The engine number appears to be 126M02-1525-F1

This starts right up initially. After mowing like 15 minutes, if I shut it off to empty the clippings bag, it won't re-start until about 15 minutes go by. Then it starts readily. So I'm asking for any suggestions, thanks.
 
Pull the cord slowly until you feel it start to a kick/bind, then pull really hard.If it is at the end of the rope, let it in and pull hard. Don't just pull and pull and pull. I had to train my other half to do the same thing because she was having the same issue. Now she starts it 99 out of 100 times on the first or second pull when hot. You are going along and let go of the safety. That kills the engine because of no spark, but the cylinder is flooding with fuel and air. Now you pull and pull and pull flooding it more. When you pull slowly it doesn't suck in much fuel, mostly air. When the mixture gets to a place it can ignite you feel the resistance in the cord. Now it is ready to start.

That engine has an autochoke system. I’d guess that when you shut it down the choke is wide open and when you try to restart, it wants a little choke. Wait 15 minutes and the thermostat relaxes a little and you get some choke and the engine starts rIght up. I had a mower that did this. Really annoying. The consensus here was that some engines just like some choke when starting, even when fully warmed up. I guess you could swap out the air filter box for one that has a prImer bulb, or give it a shot of carb cleaner to get it going again if you don’t want the 15 minute break imposed on you.

Thermostat will hold the choke open a few minutes after killing the engine. Will cool off and fully close the choke back once cold. Need to make sure the air vane springs back open and closed. Numerous videos on the autochoke on youtube.

Yes you can simply add a primer bulb to your autochoke air filter housing. IF you didn't over torque the three screws and warp it. Most are slammed on with impact guns warping the plastic filter housing.
