CRAFTSMAN PYT 9000 PTO ANTI ROTATION BRACKET

The anti rotation bracket that keeps the PTO unit from rotating has broken off and I`m unable to remove the bolt that holds the PTO on because it turns with the bolt!! I`ve looked at parts diagrams for the PYT and can`t find a part called the "anti rotation bracket" or find anything in the diagrams that looks like what I`ve seen on YTube. I can`t even find the place on the PYT where the anti rotation bracket would attatch even if I had the part!!....LOL............Any suggestions?.............Thanks.............yofrenray

This is because the belt retainer is the anti rotation device if I am looking at the correct model. Plus you misunderstand its purpose it is prevent the PTO from rotating during deck belt braking operation. The crankshaft is free to turn at all times. Without it the clutch would rip the wires out, destroying many PTO clutches.

Item 18 and the spring [24] is to dampen the slop in retainer and PTO

Depending on the clutch design it is either holding the flywheel or the double D on the clutch to remove the retaining screw. Now in shops we can power out the screw with an impact. But we still need to prevent the crankshaft from rotating as we install the screw as it is torqued to 55 ft-lbs to prevent the screw from coming out during engine operations.

Post the model number from the serial number tag so we can have a better look at the system.

Thanks Star Tech for that very informative reply! Makes more sense now. Model # for my PYT9000 is...................247.288881 .. I haven`t tried it yet but I`m going to try to attach just the one side of the retainer that goes in the slot on the PTO to secure it and maybe be able to move the other side out of the way of the bolt so I can remove it !?? The wires have broken off right at the connection on the PTO but `Taryl Fixes All` on YouTube offers a way to repair it! We just spent $400 on this mower to correct various problems but unknown to us the shop was being sold and it came back in this shape and we tried to protest the charges but to no avail !!.............Thanks Again and GODs Blessings.............yofrenray

MYFRENS...This is a 2010 Craftsman PYT9000.....I have secured the one side of the belt retainer that fits in the slot on the PTO so I can remove the bolt holding it on! I had to use hammer drill to loosen the bolt but it now turns the engine over and won`t come out! What am I doing wrong?? Hope this is not a left handed thread....THANKS....yofrenray.....1000005788.jpg1000005789.jpg1000005790.jpg

See that Double D adapter. That's what you use a wrench to hold while removing the bolt. Here I designed a tool that fits these recessed double Ds and had my machinist to make the two I have here that fits 4 different Ds.

In your case that should be a 1-3/8 double D. If you can't the wrench in there then it is a large flat tip screwdriver stuck in the flywheel ring gear up against one of the ignition coils studs. Usually that requires a helper.
