Craftsman LT1000 not starting.
It's cranking over , but not catching.
I pulled the spark plugs and they had no spark so I pulled the top red cover off of the engine and I sanded down the metal ring on top. It now has spark but it is not trying to start. It turns over but combustion is not happening. Looks like gas is coming out of the exhaust after testing spark (I was turning engine over without spark plugs so i could see the spark).

Not sure what to check next.

Update, back to not showing sparks. :(
i'm assuming i need new points.

You need to sand the flywheel and the coil. Make sure the coil is gapped right (business card thickness). Then check for spark.
