Hi I have a 1998 Craftsman DYT400 18.5 ohm Briggs/ Stratton Intel Plus Model # 917.2736401 It runs well except starting. When you go to start it will try to turn over very weak and then it kicks over and starts that’s in warm weather . In cooler weather it won’t start at all.It tries to turn over for a second and then dies The shop that serviced it said they replaced the battery . Any ideas would be appreciated Thanks

Bad electrical connections, wrong oil, wrong battery too low CCA, will all contribute to this problem.

Check the valve lash. If it has backed off on the exhaust valve it can cause the compression to be to high for the starter to overcome making you think you have a bad battery. The engine needs a `compression leak` to spin up while starting. There are some good youtube videos describing the problem and the process.
