I'm hoping to find an answer as to why my mower will not start. I've checked the battery, key switch, and it's not the gas. Maybe the starter solenoid? All it does when I turn the key is make a fast, rattling noise. Any suggestions are worth trying after months of not being able to use. Thanks.

Welcome V.,

Whenever you ask about a problem on a machine you need to provide us with the chassis product and engine label information. We have no idea how your machine is configured and there are thousands of possibilities out there.

Most problems like this start with a weak/bad battery and or dirty battery terminals. A meter can read 12 volts but turn the key to start and see if the voltage reading practically disappears.

Are you able to jump start the motor and get it running?

Check battery voltage while someone is turning the key to start. I’m betting it will drop below 10 VDC. If it does, time to replace the battery.

Thanks for the responses. Lawn Addict, I can be a goober at times. I'll give that a shot.
Rivets, you know what they say about opinions!! Given your position, no doubt you have more than book knowledge.
