Thanks for the pictures! Again, sorry for poor pic quality. Wish I had the money to do stuff like that, although I don't know for sure that if I had the money, I'd have the energy. I can relate to that statement.
I think the Mack is my favorite. It is mine as well. I've always been partial to Macks although I've never owned one. I drove a few in my young years. I did rent one for a week or so (an R700 Maxidyne with 5 speed trans). After using that truck, I thought, "Why do these other trucks need so many gears??" I've had 9, 10, 13 and 15 speed trucks and the Mack only needed five. That would have had a gold tone bull dog on the hood, denoting the Maxidine. Mack engines were known for their torque rise and must've been better than other engines. & the Maxidine Big Turbo, older Macks had no turbo, so the xtra gears helped.
I know where an old R700 is sitting in the weeds, slowly being disassembled by nature and vandals. If I had the money, I'd save it. I remember you saying this, that's why I thought you might get a kick outta these rats.
Also: I see the Detroit (8V-71?) has no air filter. No it does not & once started it blows blue smoke like crazy. it Gives me the heebie-jeebies knowing what it costs to overhaul one of those engines. Yep, so true. I've been involved in doing an in -chassis overhaul, pulling the piston sleeves & etc...
I think you would have enjoyed hearing the Mack's Cummings thru those straight pipes. He was really racking them off them hitting the Jake. Crowd loved it.
