courage 17 start and run issue

troybilt bronco 2016. the courage 17 starts ok cold, but if i stop it, it doesn’t want to restart. have to go full choke to restart. then i have to keep full choke for awhile if i try to put the throttle back to half choke or anywhere else it sputters, pops, and slowly shuts off. i have to feather the choke just right to get it to run for a few minutes till the surging stops before i can set the throttle to fast or slow.

Could the afterfire solenoid on the bottom of the carb being acting up when hot. There was an issue with some of the early courage single used on MTD mowers were the muffler was too close to the carb and was actually shorting out the solenoid and is some cases burning the wires off the bottom, which prompted the heat shield that goes behind the carb and wraps the fuel bowl/solenoid area.

I’ll check into that, thanks. I was also checking on a new carb for it but have trouble with all the sites using the same carb and jet size for 14hp to 26 hp engines.

Remove and correctly clean carburetor.

Remove the fuel tank. Flush her out like new. Blow out with shop air and SAFETY GLASSES.

Install all new fuel line from tank to carb.

Make sure you have a solid fuel flow AT the carb inlet.
