Hi Gang:

This year, I went fron a 16-1 to a 32-1 mix for my Lawn boy with a model number of 5239 and a serial number number of 5988717. Is this enough oil? I have information stating that this mower was made in both 1971 and 1975! LOL The 16-1 smoked a great deal but I did not have any problems with it!

Hello Reed:

I do not beleive that castor oil will mix with gasoline. Perhaps what you are using has some other chemicals added to get the two to mix. Castor is a greart lube but it has serious disadvantages for use in Lawnboy engines! Perehaps it is best to use only Lawnboy oil.

Stay well,

The 5239 was made in 1970 and 1971. If it had a letter after the model number then it would be a 1972-1981 depending on the letter. 1972 and up models used a 32to 1 mix. Prior models to 1972 required 16to1 mix or 1/2 pt Lawn Boy oil to 1 gallon of gas. Using less is risking a broken rod through the side of the crankcase, is it worth the risk? Use the correct amount of oil set by the engineers that designed and built the motor and use the best Lawn Boy quality oil.

Hi LB8210:

I thought that 16-1 was correct in my 5239! I got confused this year and made up some 32-1 mix. I will change the mix asap!

If I remember correctly, the 16-1 mix was required as the 5239 had a plain lower bearing rather than needle bearings. Why I forgot this, I can not remember! LOL

Again thanks for taking the time to help me!

Stay well my friend,

Franchi
