Fuel flows, kill switch set to run. No fire, even with starting fluid. Can't detect spark with gap tester or bulb. Wire from magneto to kill switch measures dead ground, even unhooked from switch. Lots of covers to remove, but I got to the coil, and the connector that goes to the wire to kill switch shows 0 ohms to ground. Is it a dead coil/magneto? That's my thought at this point.

Thanks.

Do you have spark MINUS the plug? Maybe the plug opened up or gap closed??

Simple 12 volt test light connected to bare metal. Pointy end inside the plug boot. Do you have spark this way?

I have no signs of spark, but have not tested without the plug. My thought was that since I see short to ground at the terminal, coil is bad. Is that correct?

I had to remove the recoil start to get at the coil, and it's a pain to put back together.

Confirm which terminal. The kill wire terminal?

IF you have a kill wire short to ground, she will NOT start. NO spark all day long.

Does she have a low oil sensor killing spark? Check the oil on a level surface.

Ok, put it back together enough to do your test. I get spark bypassing plug. Bought plug at O'Reilly's. Putting back together, should be running soon. I know there isn't a lot of resistance on that coil terminal to ground, but it fooled me. I need a good VOM. I got spoiled by the Fluke meter I used to have... I still have spark with that all reconnected, unless kill switch is off, but my meter says it's a short with switch set to run. Mental note, don't be fooled again..
