Hi everybody, I had to go to the store today, my wife usually goes but it was my lucky day. I was completely shocked at the high price of food and the most shocking was coffee! Wow I think I'm gonna have to cut back, I didnt realize it had gone up that much. I wonder what the reason is for the high prices?

High demand, climate creating poor bean harvests, which is a weather related cause, governmental instability in the countries that grow coffee, or plain old greed--take your pick.

I don't drink coffee and most of the food that I buy hasn't gone up much lately but what has gone up like crazy in the last year or so is dog food. And I have a big, hungry dog. :licking:

I heard on CNN the other day that coffee prices were expected to drop as supplies exceeded demand. Aparently the weather has been favourable for the coffee crop in central and south america.
Membership warehouses are about the best bet for lowering what you spend. That and growing your own is the way to save.

I imagine that might be possible in parts of Florida. I know they grow it in Hawaii.

I wasn't kidding, I was referring to food prices when I said "grow your own".
The thread is about coffee and food prices.
I have seen coffee plants here but then, I've seen peaches and pair trees too. They are so hard and sour the squirrells won't even eat them.
I think you need some altitude to grow coffee.

Even though the Dept. of Labor reports that inflation is low and they do not count food prices we are being systematically screwed at the grocery store. Take canned goods for instance. Two years ago most can held 16 oz. of product. Today, they hold 13 oz or 12.5 oz. of product and the price has gone up. What used to be a 1/2 gal ice cream is now 48 oz and the same price. Meat and veggies have gone up because of ethanol for our gasoline. We are burning our food for fuel and paying higher prices for both! And then the major reason why imported items like coffee and fruits cost more is because the American dollar ain't worth poop on the world market. The beady eyed fools that we elect to represent us have done us without even kissing us.
