It's leaking with bowl on, but if I hold it up with bowl off it'll stop. I stretched spring, didn't help. Any fixing the accursed plastic apparatus?

Have you checked to make sure there isn't gas in the float making it sink and not stop fuel flow at the float needle. Floats on occasion leak and fill with gas.

Make sure the bowl vent isn't clogged. If the atmosperic vent for the bowl is clogged will cause siphoning.

Sounds like float is getting stuck someplace with float bowl, causing needle not to work correctly. Maybe you should just get new carb?
