Can't Identify Sample/Test engine on my mower. It's a Kohler

20141011_160648.jpgI've searched and can't find a database for the spec # or serial. Can anyone enlighten me as to what powerplant I have here. I'm thinking around the 26hp range but I'm just guessing. BTW, I'm looking for some parts (rectifier/regulator, radiator hose) because it isn't charging.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, this mower was a prototype all the way around from what I was told. I bought it off of a Great Dane engineer years ago. Here's some pics.

Looks like a prototype of an Aegis engine. I can't find any of the engines with a separate radiator though. Kohler has discontinued the hoses for there normal on board radiator system. I suspect the hoses may have been something that was supplies by the mower maker. the closest thing I could come up with was the LV675 engine which is 23hp.

I've got a charging issue. The flywheel magnets are intact. I'm getting a new battery tomorrow. IF the regulator turns out to be defective, how can I determine what amperage charging system I have? From what I've read, most systems are 15 amp but I don't want to assume. There isn't a part # on the regulator/rectifier. This a pic of the reg/rec and the hose that needs replaced.

I found these but again, I'm unsure as to correctness due to the fact that I can't pinpoint the engine specifics.

the picture shows the regulator for the 15 amp system, so you got that covered. As far as the hose, if it fits use it.

Make sure that the green wire that grounds the case of the rec/reg is in place. The green wire attaches to one of the mounting screws holding the rec/reg to the plastic shroud around the flywheel and is grounded to the engine block. On Kohler engines with the plastic blower housings, I've seen the ground wires left off from the factory or removed during a previous repair and if it's not in place, it won't charge.

Well, I'm getting 41+ volts out of the stator but I'm not getting 12 volts on the B+ leg back to the battery on the plug that connects to the reg/rec. I'm going to get a new ignition switch and try it. One other issue I'm having is that the PTO doesn't engage now. But that's a whole other can of worms I guess.

On a 6 post, 3 position ignition switch, is there supposed to be a post that is key hot? I'm getting the nominal 41 volts out of the 2 AC connectors on the reg/rec but where does the 12v DC come from on the middle connector? Where does it connect to? (the B+ middle connector on the reg/rec) I checked it with the engine running and I get NOTHING.

Don't know if your ignition switch has the terminals lettered, on the Kohler 25-099-04 switch which was popular with most of the OEMS using Kohler engines with magneto ignitions like yours, the B+ usually always connects to the "R" terminal on the ignition switch. The constant 12v from the battery connects to the "B" terminal. With the switch in the ON position, you should have continuity between the "B", "R", and "A" terminals. In the START position, you should have continuity between the "B" and "S" terminal. With 42v coming from across both AC leads from the stator, that is the correct voltage from the stator. If the reg/rec is grounded and no output from the B+ lead, I'd say the reg/rec is bad. Hope this helps!
