Buying Advice Buying a craftsman?

So I'm thinking about buying a craftsman 2000 . The one that has 19.5 horsepower and is the red one. Any advice would be appreciated. I want to get a good mower that will last me for many years an not cost an arm and a leg ... Thanks

I and others need more than19.5 and red one to comment. I own a 2004 dyt 4000 intek 24 and can comment on that one only. Tell us more

The Craftsman LT2000 is a very good mower do you have a model#?

I paid $1200 for a 12hp Craftsman II Lawn tractor with a bagger from Sears, way back in 1988 or about 25 years ago. Not much else has stayed around the same price since than. Oh and by the way she still runs and I still have her.

At 2 acres you may consider the 46" cut and 21HP model for only $75 more. The larger deck will cut down on the time to mow and be well worth it.

My opinion only, you get what you pay for. Someone said that it is just about the same price as what they paid in 1988, this should tell you something. I work on many Crapmans every year and the quality and durability is only good for about 5 years. Cheap thin stamped deck, light box front axle with cheap wheel spindles, plasic bushings everywhere. 5 years for $1200 or 10 years for $2000, which is the cheaper unit.

I stand by my earlier comments and tend to differ with his opinion. I did not see a $2000 recommendation. 25 years for $1200 or 10 years for $2000, now which is the cheaper unit? Mine has never been in a repair shop. They are called Craftsman not a crapsman and as a homeowner for the money you will be well served with it. They did not get to be one of the largest brands by selling crap. They get a bad rap probably because there are more of them out there than any other brand. That ought to tell you something. There are many people here with testimonials how their's has served them well for many years. They are branded Craftsman as there are only a few manufacturers (Husqvarna and MTD) who make all the brands. Do some research as most all brands for homeowners come from these two manufacturers. Those $2000 mowers were $2000 twenty five years ago also and most are the same manufacturer as Craftsman uses. Now if you want a commercial mower you will pay a lot more than $2000. As I said mine is still going strong after 25 years and the one in my avatar is 30 years old. If you take care of it , it will take care of you. It is not built to be abused as most are not. My front axle, bushings and spindles are original and working just fine. If I need parts (rarely) they are easy to get and cheap and easy to repair. But this is only my opinion as I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night. :laughing: Your money and your choice.

For what your going to use it for the craftsman will do just fine and give you years of mowing fun.
