Briggs & Stratton engine replacement

Hi, I have a blown Briggs & Stratton 8hp 195707 0112-01 in a Murray ride on lawnmower, can I replace this with a 195707 0421-E1 engine? Not sure if the shaft is exactly the same length although it has two similar looking pulley wheels (in a photo)

Well it depends on the date codes as two different crankshaft were used depending on the date code

The 0112-01 code is 9412081B and the potential replacement 0421-E1 code is 9902013A

The potential replace PTO end of the crankshaft is only a tad shorter (.100 of an inch shorter). Old crank PTO is 3.156 vs the new crank 3.056

As you would think none of the internals are same. But than that they should exchange fine other some difference in the wiring which is easily figured out.

Hi Startech, I bought the engine and fitted it with a few minor changes required. Starter was making nasty clicking sound and wouldn’t start the engine. I checked the battery which is producing 13 Volts and just under 1amp. Then took starter apart to find broken magnetic bits from casing so new one on order. Will try again tomorrow
