Hi all
I’m new to the forum and I’m looking for advice concerning my second hand petrol lawn mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine.
The mower as run poorly since owned and I have serviced it and changed the oil, tightened all bolts and checked the distributor. After inspecting the choke I’m unsure if this is correct.

For us to help you we will need the model number of the engine so we can see what style of engine you are having issues with. To many variables in play to give much direction.

The governor spring is in the wrong place for a start,
It goes into the long slot hole , not the round hole.
THe round hole is for the control wire
And there is no choke the only thing that moves on that carb is the THROTTLE butterfly
There should be numbers stamped into the blower housing above the spark plug.

Thanks for the reply’s, I’ve never had a petrol mower before and think I picked up a dud but I’m mechanically minded so I’m going to try and get it running right.
Any advice going forward would be greatly appreciated

An air filter would be a good addition. Love those old foam jobs you pour some 30w oil on.

10T802-0140-B1 2008 model

Find the breather assembly behind the carburetor/fuel tank assembly. The Carb/tank needs removing so you can remove the breather assembly. This is so the valve clearances can be checked. They are probably near zero clearance being a 2008 engine. When this happens the engine will run poorly.

In order to adjust the valves, they will need to be removed. Get a copy the Briggs single L-head service manual as it help you through the repairs.

Also since it will not start when hot I would check for spark during the time it will not start as you could have ignition coil failure.
